Prepping, or preparing for a disaster, seems to be all the “out there craze” nowadays. But the real question is, is there a disaster out there in the wings ready to make these people “survivors” or just whack jobs?
I suppose we have to decide first of all what is a disaster, and what is not, and how likely the “event” is, before we can decide if they are preparing for survival, or waisting their money and effort.
The list of global disaster types is actually much larger than most people are aware; we will look at several of the most likely and the least (lowest prediction level) scenarios.This is MY list not anyone else’s, though many that I write here are on the Big List.
A Global disaster, would have to be, well global in nature, not a Tsunami that wiped out LA, not an earthquake, connected as they may be, that would take out Tokyo (that’s Godzilla’s “Gojira” job). The problem with these is that though for many people these would be life changers/enders, they are way to small to have any world wide major effects, other than short term. We need a world affecting event, a “Global Disaster.” Of these kinds, once again, there are a lot more than most people think, some are not very likely, some are inevitable, unavoidable, and some will be ELE in nature, well too bad for us in that case.
Ice age/Climate disaster: We were taught, when I was in high school, that an Ice Age took thousands of years to come about. That, I thought at the time was not correct, all we needed to have happen was for the winters snow to not melt. This is not very likely is it, what with summer and all coming after winter, but this past summer was not the summer of my childhood, as a matter of fact many summers in the last 10 years or so have NOT been the summers of my youth, to add to that the springs and falls have been different for that matter. Most of my youth, spring flowed gently into summer, summer slid into fall, and winter came after. In general, it was a gentle sine wave of temperature changes, aberrations did occur, but they were just a rare storm event.
The big gorilla enters the room at this point, US, and our inability to let go of our need for mass consumption, and the power needed to feed that consumption rate. The result of which is more CO2 and methane (plus several others). Yes you have heard it over and over C fucking O2, your ears have got to hurt from the onslot. Well, too bad, it IS a big problem, this global climate change. It is happening NOW.
However, does this qualify for the Preppers as an Apocalyptic survival scenario? I don’t think so, not really, even though it WILL be a global disaster it will not happen fast enough for them to need to stock up on wooly underwear, or get used to the idea of nakedness (to hot), depending on where you live. Global Warming does not mean that everywhere will be hotter, it does mean that the Average overall world temperature will go up. The disaster part of it is that the Arctic, and the Antarctic temperatures will, and already are going to go up. The Polar Bear, and certain sea mammals are already in desperate trouble. It is possible without intervention that this generation may see them go away, for ever. Well not really as we could store their genetic code, then remake them in a thousand or so years . . . . . if we are still alive . . . . “in the year 2525 if man is still alive, if woman can survive . . .” Other issues are a bit more direct, of instance look a Brazil: rainforest right, do you know that SouthEast Brazil in in an unheard of drought? A rainforest in a drought? kind of a contradiction is isn’t it? Well that is what deforestation will do for you, I mean besides killing the cure for Cancer, or diabetes, ur just KILLING species off like we are the gods we think we are. Keep killing and destroying Humans, the payback is coming.
